Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev will meet in the 2023 Adelaide International 1 semifinal in a highly-anticipated matchup.

When the draw for the 2023 Adelaide International 1 was released, one possible matchup stood out, and it was the possible meeting between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Both players won all the matches they needed to win, and their meeting and rematch of the 2021 US Open final is now a reality.

First, the Russian took on fellow compatriot Karen Khachanov. Medvedev had a slow start as he faced two break points already in the second game, but he stayed calm under pressure and won the game. He then created his chances to break in the seventh game and got the lead for the first time in the match as he was up 4-3.

He then added one more break to win the first set 6-3 in just 35 minutes. In the second set, Khachanov broke first. But Medvedev managed to break his opponent twice again and win the match 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 18 minutes.

In the last semifinal match of the event, Djokovic played against the seventh-seeded Denis Shapovalov. The Serbian also started by facing break points, but similar to his semifinal opponent, he didn't get broken and stayed patient until the eighth game, when he got his only break point of the first set, which was enough to win it 6-3.

In the second set, Djokovic got off to a fast start as he got a break and soon was up 3-2 and 40-0. However, his opponent then won five points in a row, and after winning the next game, Shapovalov led 4-3 in the second set.

Yet, that was the last game the Canadian could win as the 21-time Grand Slam champion won the last three games of the match to beat the youngster 6-3, 6-4, and set up a semifinal meeting with Medvedev.
