For the second year in a row, Casper Ruud will find himself at the ATP Finals, where only the Top 8 players play every year.

Ruud has been at the top of tennis for a couple of years now. The Norwegian didn’t have a grand entrance into the Top 10 but more so played himself into it under the radar.

He won a lot of ATP 250 tournaments, as Nick Kyrgios famously pointed out, but has since started adding more good results. The Norwegian played at the ATP Finals for the first time in 2021 and will now play for the second time in 2022.

This time, it’s even more deserved with two Grand Slam finals this year, Roland Garros and the US Open. That run at the US Open is what ultimately pushed him over the points threshold needed to qualify for the event.

It’s been a massive season for Ruud, who won a title in Buenos Aires earlier in the year. He also won the Geneva Open and a title in Gstaad while making the Miami Open, the French Open, and the US Open final.

That was enough for him to accumulate a lot of points to qualify. Ruud could have even become the World No. 1 player at the US Open had he won the final match.

As Carlos Alcaraz won that event, he became the number one instead. Still, Ruud was very happy with qualifying once more for the ATP Finals, as he explained in a video posted on his social media.

"I just got the news that I qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin again this year and I’m so much looking forward to coming back to Italy. I had such a great time last year, it’s a great country for tennis."

The way the Norwegian player has played this year, there is a chance he might end up being a factor at that event despite it being not a surface he doesn’t fancy too much.
