Alexander Zverev has officially withdrawn from the 2022 Halle Open after sustaining an ankle injury that is most likely serious in nature.

Only a few days ago, the German likely played the best tennis that he has ever played. He was possibly on track to becoming the world no. 1, but then a disaster struck at the 2022 Roland Garros.

Zverev was battling Rafael Nadal in the semifinal of the French Open, when he fell down to the floor, screaming in pain, in what seemed as a rolled ankle, but turned out to be even worse injury.

The tumble Zverev took in Paris a few days ago looked bad, and the initial injury did as well. Especially after he was carted off the court for a brief medical checkup. A recent social media post confirmed that the injury is most likely serious and that Zverev will miss a prolonged amount of time.

The full extent of the injury is not yet known, however the German officially withdrew from the 2022 Halle Open, one of his home tournaments that he certainly wanted to play in hopes to prepare for the third Grand Slam of the season.

It probably won't be the only event he withdraws from, and Wimbledon is highly unlikely for him, especially if the injury turns out to be several torn ligaments as he hinted at in the social media post.

As a result, in a span of a few seconds, Zverev's season could have possibly turned from the best of his life to his worst, as the fact that he has been entering an airplane on crutches recently suggests that he may need more than a few months.

It's very hard to predict at this stage, but it would be certainly good for everyone to see him back on the tennis court as soon as possible.
