Carlos Alcaraz won't have his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, with him at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
The young Spaniard is very close to his coach Ferrero. The 21-year-old considers the former world number one a second father, as he's been with him for many years, dating back to his teenage years.
They often glance at each other during matches, and it has worked really well so far for the duo. Alcaraz has proven himself to be a superstar on the ATP Tour, winning three Grand Slam trophies so far.
In fact, he will try to win his fourth major trophy at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships in the final against Novak Djokovic, and there's a decent chance that he will win that match.
Still, according to his own words, the Spaniard heavily relies on Ferrero, and while he has competed without him in the past, he always prefers to have Ferrero close by. That won't be the case for the upcoming Paris Olympics, as most athletes can't bring their full entourage to the Games with them.
They can generally bring only a handful of people with them, and most athletes opt for someone who has some kind of medical background and has more proficiency if any unfortunate situation occurs.
Spanish publication Marca reported that Alcaraz's agent, Albert Molina, would be traveling with him to the French capital, taking the role of coach for the event.
It's certainly an interesting development for the young player, who knew previously that he may play in Paris without his coach. If Alcaraz could bring his full team with him, Ferrero would surely be there with him.
Still, he won the US Open a few years ago without Ferrero being present for much of the event. He also won at the Queen's Club last year without Ferrero, so he can win without him.
