Carlos Alcaraz remained gracious despite the shock defeat, as he recognised just how well Daniil Medvedev played in their eventful US Open semi-final contest.

Alcaraz's achievements have been nothing short of astronomical in the last couple of seasons, attaining World No.1 in such a short space of time, and already having two major titles to his name at the age of just 20.

Perhaps because the Spaniard has set such high standards for himself, and has heightened many peoples expectations, these losses sometimes feel like a crisis, but Alcaraz stayed firm in saying that there is still plenty more room for opportunities for the rest of the season, and he can essentially end this memorable season on a high.

Alcaraz is regularly putting himself in the business-end of most tournaments he competes in, and stunned many with his results on a grass court surface he initially had little to no experience of moving on before picking up the Queen's and Wimbledon titles this season.

Alcaraz gave his viewpoint on how he felt about the shock loss to Medvedev, ultimately giving his opponent all the credit in the world afterwards.

"I would have loved to have played Novak in the final. but Medvedev deserved it more than me. His forehand surprised me and it was much better than in previous matches. He is one of the best players in the world so I can't be surprised by most of the things he does."

Medvedev did an excellent job of alleviating his weaknesses on the forehand and adjusting his court position considerably to previous matches against Alcaraz. Alcaraz historically has been able to dominate the tactical aspects of this rivalry, but Medvedev learned from previous losses this time.

Alcaraz now has his sights set on the remaining tournaments this season.

"I always want to improve and you learn more from losing than from winning. Got to check with Juan Carlos what I did wrong. The season isn't over. There are a lot of big tournaments still coming this year."
