Alcaraz Opens Up About Rules When Leaving 'Under Parents' Roof' Regardless Of Slams Won

Carlos Alcaraz is very close to his family, and he spoke about them and life in Murcia, noting that his parents are still in charge of what happens under their roof.

Alcaraz isn't a minor anymore, but he still lives with his family in Murcia. It's by choice because he loves to stay around his family, as he spends so much time away from home.

His father and older brother travel with him frequently, but his mother and two younger siblings stay back at home, so being away from them for long periods of time makes him miss them.

His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has his Academy fairly close by, so it's just a nice setup that works well for Alcaraz when he comes back home. As soon as he's done with events, the Spaniard travels back home, where he spends time with his family.

He frequently talked about how nothing changed in his life, as he still lives a relatively simple life off the courts. ABC received a little insight into that in a recent interview, as he admitted that back home, his parents' rules still need to be followed.

"Once I set foot in my house, I am under my parents' rules. So it doesn't matter if I've won two Grand Slams or fifteen. They are the ones who rule and I think that's the beauty of it. Once I get home I forget about the tennis part and I'm the same person as always."

Alcaraz on life back home

Alcaraz was always quite adamant that tennis success or fame hadn't changed him, and those close to him backed those claims up. Living the same life outside of the courts as he did before becoming famous certainly contributed to that, and his family kept him grounded.

When he's back home, nothing is different. He enjoys that because the Tour can get quite hectic and stressful, so getting back home and relaxing surrounded by his people is what he enjoys most—the simple life.

"Being at home, calm, with my people. Without doing much, because at home I enjoy not doing big things, but doing the simplest and most natural things. That's what characterizes me and what I enjoy the most. That's what I miss the most."

Still, the nature of his job means he's on the road most of the time, so any time he doesn't have to be on the road, the Spaniard rushes home, win or lose, to get back to the life he enjoys most.

He aspires to remain a normal guy in the whole tennis whirlwind. So far, it does seem like he's been balancing it really well, and the hope is that it will continue in the future.

"When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family. I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers. To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy."
