Carlos Alcaraz will contest the 2023 Cinch Championships final on Sunday, June 25th, against Alex de Minaur, and if he wins, he'll be number one on the ATP Tour again.
Alcaraz returned to number one following the Italian Open as Djokovic failed to defend his trophy, but he didn't stay long as number one.
Novak Djokovic's title run in Paris returned him to number one on the rankings,
but we might see a shift again.
Alcaraz has a chance to return to number one if he wins the trophy in London, and that's a great thing for him ahead of Wimbledon.
He might also become the fifth youngest player to win trophies on all three surfaces, which is another great achievement to have on the resume. Asked about becoming world number one, Alcaraz confirmed that it's added motivation for him.
"Well, no, it help me a lot. You know, it's an extra motivation for me. Obviously during the match I'm not thinking about that, but is an extra motivation for me, you know, to go into the final with extra energy. You know, I'm gonna go for it. Obviously being top seed at Wimbledon, being No. 1, for me, it's still a dream."
Alcaraz was the top seed in Paris, and while it did give him a good draw, the Spaniard didn't end up as champion.
It's unlikely that he will end up as champion at Wimbledon, but being the top seed at age 20 at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon is still a great achievement for him.
"Yeah, is something that I work on. You know, to recover the No. 1, I think Novak and I, we are having a beautiful fight, you know, for the No. 1 Yeah, I'm gonna go for it. Yeah, it's been crazy for me to be top seed in Wimbledon."
