Carlos Alcaraz has faded from the top of tennis in recent months as he needs to change a few things to keep up with the others, notably Jannik Sinner.
When Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon last year, nobody really questioned whether he was the number one player in the world. Novak Djokovic was still in the picture but the Spaniard just beat him in his house. Everybody was bracing for a spectacular finish to the year, but the opposite happened.
He faded. He faded a lot. Jannik Sinner stepped up and basically replaced Alcaraz as the main threat to Novak Djokovic. When the Italian beat him in Melbourne a few weeks ago, he cemented himself as the top name right now.
Legendary players analyzed the situation on his podcast admitting that players learned how to play against him.
At a very young age, he [Carlos Alcaraz] has had some pretty damn good success. But, along with that comes some injuries which we know about. I think some of the players have realized just how to play him or how he plays. What he did so well at the beginning kinda caught them off guard. Maybe, they have caught on to that a little bit.
To counter that, you need to change some things, as tennis is an ever-evolving sport. Some of his idols never stopped reinventing themselves, and he must, too.
Maybe, he needs to change up a little bit and try to figure out something else. It's not a big move, it's just tiny little scratches along the way that maybe he can change to kinda offset his opponents a little bit.
Ultimately, Connors has no worries about Alcaraz as the youngster enjoys the game and works really hard. That's all you want from a player.
He might be going through a little bit of a downtime. But, you can see he enjoys the game, he works hard at the game and to continue to be at the top of the game, he is gonna have to stay with that.
