Carlos Alcaraz was named the winner of the 2023 ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award and created a history.
Alcaraz, 20, is the youngest recipient of this prestigious award, which rewards fair play, high professionalism, and integrity on and off the court. This unique award was voted by the players from a shortlist that the ATP nominated.
Alcaraz beat the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Hubert Hurkacz, and Jannik Sinner to the award and is only the fourth Spaniard to have his name etched on the roll of honor, following the footsteps of Jose Higueras, Alex Corretja (twice) and five-time winner Rafael Nadal.
In a career of firsts, Alcaraz has achieved some milestone wins at his age. He is already the first man born after 1990 to win multiple Grand Slams. And this latest award comes a year after becoming the youngest-ever ATP year-end No. 1.
For all of Roger Federer's exemplary sportsmanship and charisma, he won this award for the first time at the of 23 (the Swiss is the current record holder with 13 wins). This is a mark of the Spaniard's incredible skillset and maturity that he is able to handle quite a diverse list of tennis chores like a seasoned veteran.

The Spanish sensation fell short in his quest to finish as the ATP No. 1 for the second year in a row but still had the winningest season of his career in 2023, bagging six titles and finishing with more ranking points than in 2022 when he ended the year as No. 1.
