Carlos Alcaraz has shared his desire to win the Wimbledon title, ideally in 2023 following a solid run to the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz has progressed through the previous four rounds at Wimbledon with relative ease, as the world number one on the ATP Tour has only dropped two sets. In addition, the Spanish player showed his mental strength in the fourth round against Matteo Berrettini, when he lost the first set 6-3 before hitting back to win in four sets.
The victory has set up an eye-catching quarter-final clash against fellow 20-year-old and good friend Holger Rune. However, the upcoming challenge against Rune will unlikely deter Alcaraz as the world number one expressed his determination to win a Wimbledon title during his post-match interview after beating Berrettini.
"I'm hungry for more. It's something I really wanted, last year I lost in the fourth round, and I really wanted to play the quarterfinal here and once I got it, I'm looking for more. My dream is to play the final here and win this title one day, and I hope to reach that dream this year."
This year, Alcaraz has progressed further at the All England Lawn Tennis Club compared to his previous two appearances. In his maiden Wimbledon, Alcaraz crashed out in the second round, and he fell in the fourth round last year.
The 20-year-old reflected on his improvement via his post-match press conference. In particular, Alcaraz feels he has improved some of the physical parts of his game on grass, but he also pinpointed that more 'confidence' on the surface has been a factor - perhaps coming from his tournament victory at Queens in June.
"I'm going to say the movement, the confidence. I could say I improved the most since last year. I have more confidence, more experience. I would say on grass is really, really important. I'm going to say that."
