The 2022 Laver Cup will start already on Friday, September 23rd, and the schedule of play has been released for the first day of the tournament.
The Laver Cup is an exhibition event, and as such, there are some special rules in play. Team Europe and Team World collect points across three days, and a win on each day is valued differentl.y
On Day 1, only one point is awarded for every victory. On the other hand, Day 2 gives teams two points per win, and on Day 3, teams are awarded three points for each win.
Therefore, both teams usually pick players who are not in the best form or might specialize in doubles at the event to compete on the first day.
In the first match of the 2022 Laver Cup, two-time Grand Slam finalist in 2022, Casper Ruud will take on Jack Sock, who will be a doubles specialist for Team World.
In the second match, Stefanos Tsitsipas will play against Diego Schwartzman. Schwartzman would have likely preferred if the tournament was played on the clay courts, which is why Tsitsipas will likely be a big favorite to win this match.
One-fourth of the famous "Big Four" will be in singles action on Friday as well. Former ATP World No. 1, Andy Murray, will play against Alex de Minaur in the third match of the day.
But the most interesting will be the fourth match, which will be a doubles match. Roger Federer will end his professional tennis career alongside his great rival and good friend, Rafael Nadal.
The European duo will meet American duo, Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Although it will be mostly an emotional match because of Federer's retirement, Team World will certainly be motivated to win one valuable point in the doubles match.
