It's the year of engagements in tennis as we have a third tennis couple that got engaged this year, and this time around, it's Russians Alexander Shevchenko and Anastasia Potapova.
One of these names is more familiar to tennis fans, and that's that of Potapova, whose name was in the headlines earlier this year, but not for a good thing. She was sporting a Russian sports kit on a tennis court, which fellow player Iga Swiatek called out.
She didn't seem impressed and brushed it off but didn't do the same thing anymore. Besides that, we've also seen her do some good things on the court, such as beating Coco Gauff in Miami.
Her boyfriend Alexander Shevchenko backed her up with some solid performances of his own breaking into the Top 100 and beating Medvedev at the Madrid Open for example. Their relationship was pretty strong as per Potapova's words about it earlier this year at the French Open.
Obviously, I didn’t know how it was going to work because scheduling in tennis is never easy. But somehow we’ve been able to manage it and in fact, it’s like we’ve spent every week together and we see each other a lot, which is a very good thing.
Now they're set to take it to another level as they posted a joint photo on Instagram with Potapova holding her hand up with a ring on it, and that only means one thing - they are engaged. The happy couple got some congratulations from fellow players, including fellow Russian Anastasia Kalinskaya.
It's been the year of engagements in tennis as this is the third one we've seen. The other two featured Denis Shapovalov, who got engaged to Mirjam Bjorklund earlier this year. The second one was Madison Keys getting engaged to longtime boyfriend Bjorn Fratangelo.
