They have transcended the sport of tennis for the best part of two decades, writing their names into the sports folklore, always to be remembered as one of the all-time greats.
Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal have both had unforgettable years in their own ways, Nadal kicking off 2022 with his greatest ever start, winning three ATP titles amid a 20-match winning streak that included THAT Australian Open win over Daniil Medvedev.
He backed that up to claim his 14th French Open in June, his record-breaking 22nd Grand Slam overall.
Williams finally returned to the court after a long absence, competing at Wimbledon and then the US Open, before which she had told the world she was 'transcending' away from tennis.
It set the stage for an emotional farewell for Williams in New York (although at first, she kept on winning) and she finally bowed out and paid an emotional farewell after defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round.
And now, after memorable years for both - for differing reasons - Nadal and Williams have found themselves up for the People's Choice Awards' Game Changer of 2022.
The awards are fan awards where people worldwide can vote for their favourites in 40 categories across movies, television, music, and pop culture.
For their exploits, the duo has been nominated amongst many other celebrities like LeBron James, Chloe Kim, Megan Rapinoe and basketball superstar Steph Curry.
The award will be shown on NBC and E! on Tuesday, December 6 at 9:00pm ET/PT and will be hosted by comedian Kenan Thompson.
