Gauff's Former Coach Set To Rejoin Her Team To Work Alongside Brad Gilbert

Many in the tennis world have commented about the effect that Brad Gilbert has had since joining Coco Gauff's team, but it appears that she wants more than just his guidance in her camp.

The 20-year-old enjoyed unprecedented success last year after Gilbert became her coach. She won her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati before following that with a historic maiden Grand Slam at the US Open.

Despite the enormity of that achievement, Gauff revealed she does not have the US Open trophy on display in her house. This may surprise some but this is something quite a few other players have done in the past.

However, the American did put her huge US Open winner's pay check to good use. Gauff revealed how she treated herself after receiving a whopping three million dollars for triumphing at Flushing Meadows.

It has been a slower start to 2024 for Gauff. She has had some good results, such as winning the title in Auckland and reaching the semifinal in Indian Wells, but there have not been any big titles yet for the star of the game.

Gauff has a strong mentality and always wants to find any way of getting even better. She has shown this again by bringing back someone who used to be on her team when she first emerged on the WTA Tour.

L'equipe reports that Jean-Christophe Faurel is set to return to Gauff's team. This is to work with Gilbert rather than replace him, with it being reported that Faurel has responded positively and is set to accept the offer.

Faurel coached the American from March 2019 to December 2020. It was during his reign that Gauff had her stunning breakthrough tournament at Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round as a 15-year-old.

It would be interesting to know why Gauff has decided on this move. Hopefully, she will be asked about it at her next event, which is set to be at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart next week.
