Caroline Wozniacki overcame Lin Zhu at the 2024 Indian Wells Open after rain stopped their match on the previous day.
Wozniacki and Zhu played on two different days because the match was interrupted by rain. Eventually, the match had to be moved, but by the time it was suspended, Wozniacki was already in full control.
She had won a very close set 7-6, and she did even better when the match resumed. Yesterday's part of the match was very close and very competitive. Zhu opened with an early break to take a 2-0 lead but then fell behind 2-4 as Wozniacki found some good angles.
The Chinese player would make it 4-4 once more, and then the set ended up in a tie-break. It was a pretty close one. The Dane generally led, even though her opponent gave her some big issues.
Eventually, Wozniacki won it 7-5. Things were a lot easier today when they returned. The Danish player was able to finish it off quite nicely by taking apart Zhu's game. The Chinese player did help her by rushing from one error to another.
Wozniacki got a pretty good look at Zhu's tennis yesterday and had plenty of time to dissect her game in between the suspension and the resumption of the match. The final score ultimately ended up being 7-6(5), 6-1 for Wozniacki.
She played a really solid match, arguably her best one this year, and it was much needed. The opponent wasn't easy, as Zhu can thrive in conditions like these, but the Danis player played one of her signature matches, patiently dissecting her opponent.
It was a good and much-needed win because she hadn't played so well this year. Fans will like her next matchup against Donna Vekic, which promises to be a blockbuster at the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells.
