Iga Swiatek famously has a journal that she brings onto the court with her, so her fans became curious about what it might contain.
We've seen players bring various things to the courts. However, when it comes to the number one player in the sport, fans get more curious about it. Swiatek not only brings a journal to the courts.
She frequently reads it during matches, so Prakash Amritraj of the Tennis Channel opted to ask her what it means to her after her most recent match in Rome, where she competes at the 2024 Italian Open.
The Pole revealed that she writes tactics in there but also 'keywords,' which she wants to remember when she starts to struggle on the court. For the most part, though, it's tactics for the match.
"Well it's a secret. Just kidding. I just write my tactics there and also some keywords that I want to remember when I sometimes struggle. Not to overthink anything but to have these keywords and to focus on them, so it depends. Mostly, it's tactics."
The notebook that the Polish player brings, and the fact that she writes tactics for each player into it, just shows how dedicated she is generally to the sport. She's already got a hall-of-fame-worthy career to her name, and she's still only 22.
Of course, the journal is not the answer to becoming such a good player, but it's something that helps her on the journey. After winning the Madrid Open, the Polish player had to fight in her second match in Rome, but she made it through.
Now, she will play against former world no. 1, Angelique Kerber, who she didn't get to play many times in her tennis career, so it will be interesting to see what the notebook tells her is the key to the victory.
