After two weeks of intense tennis at Roland Garros, the dust has now settled, and the WTA rankings have undergone some major changes.
At the top, Iga Swiatek's World No. 1 remained out of reach for the rest of the field in Paris. But with the Pole bagging her fourth title in five years there, she has solidified her spot and now has 11,695 points, the highest tally by a WTA player since 2015.
However, there is a new World No. 2 after Aryna Sabalenka shockingly lost to Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal. The two-time Australian Open champion drops to third. Coco Gauff, therefore, rises to a career-high ranking of second.
The gap between them is only 100 points as the grass-court season begins. Elena Rybakina retained the fourth spot despite her inability to break the quarterfinal barrier at Roland Garros.
Jessica Pegula did not play this year's clay-court swing, but her rivals could not take advantage. She remains in fifth place. Marketa Vondrousova bridged the gap but is sixth.
This is a good time for Italian tennis, with Jannik Sinner rising to World No. 1 in the ATP rankings and his WTA counterpart Jasmine Paolini enjoying a breakthrough 2024 season.
The 28-year-old broke the world's Top 10 for the first time and is up to a career-high mark of No. 7 after a maiden runner-up finish at Roland Garros. She was also a finalist in the doubles tournament in Paris while partnering with Sara Errani.
Maria Sakkari, who lost in the first round at the clay-court Grand Slam, drops to ninth, with Ons Jabeur rounding off the Top 10. Danielle Collins' stay in the elite group was short-lived, as the American cascaded to 11th, although she has successfully qualified for the Olympics.
Emma Navarro re-enters the Top 20 and is up to a career-high of No. 18 after reaching the second week of Roland Garros. Andreeva continued her meteoric rise and thrust her name into the top 30 for the first time (23rd). She reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the senior level this past week.
Karolina Muchova's extended injury absence has impacted her ranking. She is down to 35th after the French Open, with last year's points coming off. Sofia Kenin has rejoined the Top 50, settling at 45th after reaching the third round of the clay major.
Belinda Bencic (94th) is set to exit the top 100 in the coming weeks. The Swiss is on maternity leave but posted an update on her return to practice courts following the birth of her daughter. You can stay updated on all the movements by visiting the WTA rankings page.
