Former player and coach Dmitry Tursunov has commended WTA World No. 1 Iga Swiatek's superb 2022 season, in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda.

The young Pole has had an astonishing season, winning 67 out of 76 matches, collecting two Grand Slams and four WTA 1000 titles along the way.

Highly-rated coach, Tursunov, believes a lot of the success comes down to the mindset that Swiatek is employing on the match court.

"I mean, Iga seems pretty solid at the moment, her head is in the game, she seems to be hungry. It's almost like she's not really competing with other players, she's just kind of competing with herself. She has improved her game," he said.

"I feel like she's playing a little bit maybe more aggressive this year than she played last couple of years. And of course, she has a lot more belief in herself and that's what winning a lot of matches does to you. The longevity of that domination?" added the Russian former player.

The 21 year-old Pole has won eight titles this year, during which she put together a century-best 37 match winning streak.

She was the youngest ever winner of the 'Sunshine Double' - back-to-back Indian Wells and Miami Open Masters 1000 titles, and took the US Open title despite playing below par for much of the tournament and struggling with the lighter balls used at the tournament.

Swiatek finishes the season with a chasm of more than double the points that second placed Jabeur. It is one of the greatest WTA in recent memory.

Iga summed up her feelings at the end of her season on Instagram. "Last few days I had more time to realize fully and embrace what happened this year… It's challenging to describe it with one word or even a sentence. What I know for sure is that it was special and I'll never forget it. On one hand my results were amazing… but on the other hand is what I learned about myself and it is a completely different story. There is still a lot of work, challenges and learning, that's for sure and I'm excited about it".
