Iga Swiatek has been quite up and down this year with great moments and some surprising losses but Chris Evert believes her to be the favourite for Roland Garros.

Swiatek hasn't been playing tennis this year to the level she played last year. Other players have played better against her as well which created this mix of both good and bad results. She lost in the Madrid Open final to Sabalenka but she also beat her the week before in Stuttgart.

Roland Garros has been the big event where she dominated in the past quite easily. She's won it two times already and looked primed to win it again. There are very few players that can challenge her on clay and even Sabalenka doesn't play that well on clay despite recent success. Her only trophies on the surface came in Madrid.

Speaking to Puntodebreak about upcoming Roland Garros and favourites on the surface, Evert clearly stated the young Pole's name, even mentioning that her scheduling has been smart and will allow her to perform even better.

I really liked the pace at which Iga Swiatek has walked in recent weeks. She didn't play in Miami or the Billie Jean King Cup, she is being smart in her training, scheduling her breaks.

Evert believes Swiatek to be very the favourite for the event simply because she's been so dominant there in the past. In the words of the former legendary player, Iga is fully prepared to go all the way with her impressive skillset.

She is fully prepared and clay is her best surface. She has both a great defense and a great offensive arsenal, she takes the ball out of your hand and takes control of every exchange by moving so well and hitting early.

Evert on Swiatek

I think the area she can improve on is serving and if someone wants to beat her she must constantly attack her second serve. Maybe someone like Aryna Sabalenka can do that, but she has to be consistent and not over-attack.
