Serena Williams recently discussed her daughter Olympia and her tennis skills, admitting that she is not very interested in the sport yet.
The 40-year-old American lifted a Grand Slam trophy last time back in 2017. Since winning the Australian Open that year, Williams has been trying to win the record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title, even in her forties.
She is arguably the greatest female tennis player of all time, and her daughter, Olympia, may follow her onto the WTA Tour, as the legendary American assessed her level.
The 23-time major winner recently appeared on The Ellen Show. Talking to Ellen DeGeneres, Williams spoke about Olympia and her journey with tennis, which began at a very young age.
Being surrounded by the sport from a very young age sparked interest, which turned into tennis lessons. Williams was asked how well her daughter was doing on the tennis court, and the proud mother gave a fair assessment.
"She can hit a good backhand but it's not consistent. She’s alright. I would say I’ve seen four-year-olds that might take her out. It’s so weird, but I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well. It drives me nuts. So I signed her up for a class, you know, a private teacher."
That response caught Ellen by surprise. She followed up with a question about why she was not teaching her daughter, to which Williams replied that she didn't have the patience for it.
She also explained that she did not reveal who she was to the private teacher when signing up her daughter for tennis lessons. Olympia is obviously still very young, but seeing Serena's daughter follow in her tennis footsteps certainly warms the hearts of many tennis fans who have followed the American's tennis journey for the past two decades.
