Jessica Pegula took to social media to provide an injury update, admitting that she might miss the Roland Garros this year.
For the past few years, Pegula has been a beacon of stability on the WTA Tour. She never really reached the heights, but she was always among the most consistent players, with fairly decent results every year.
This year has been quite different for the American as she wasn't able to remain consistent and also dealt with some injuries. She didn't play at the Madrid Open and won't play at the Italian Open due to a recent injury that happened just as she was preparing for the clay season.
The last time she was in action was weeks ago in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, with her first clay event planned to be the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. She withdrew from that due to the scheduling situation but injured herself in the preparation for the Madrid Open.
She hasn't really spoken in detail about the nature of the injury, but it's clear that it's not a minor one because she's now missed a couple of big events. She might miss even more because Roland Garros is one of the tournaments she might miss as well.
That was admitted in her most recent update on social media. She admitted that she was feeling really good but then also admitted that she might need to miss Roland Garros as she was working her way back at a snail's pace.
"Hi guys quick update. Will miss Rome and possibly RG. I actually feel really good but have to work back into training at a snail's pace."
The 2024 French Open runs between May 20th and June 9th, so the American is in a race against time to make it to the second Grand Slam of the season.
