Mirra Andreeva barely escaped against Diane Parry at the 2024 Australian Open, so what might happen when she faces a much more experienced player in Barbora Krejickova?
The Russian has been playing impressive tennis at this year's Australian Open, but it didn't look quite as pretty against Parry. The 16-year-old was down 1-5 in the final set and saved a match point en route to a comeback win, which ultimately is very impressive.
That fact that she was down 1-5 at all is the concerning part because that won't fly against somebody like Krejcikova. The Czech player might have struggled in recent times, but her experience would have certainly pushed her past the teenager with such a scoreline in the third set.
Luckily for Andreeva, it's a pretty favorable matchup, or it has been as of recently. She played twice against Krejcikova last year and won both times. The first match came at Wimbledon, and the Czech player retired 3-6 0-4, but the second one was a completed match.
They played in Beijing, and Andreeva easily won 6-2 6-2, which makes this a pretty interesting matchup. If she can beat Krejcikova once more, she'll find herself in the quarter-final, which is a huge result for the 16-year-old, who is already up to 32nd in the Live WTA Rankings.
A win over Krejcikova could push her up to 28th in the rankings, so she should be motivated. Even more so after declaring the fourth round as 'nothing'.

It's kind of tricky to predict who had the better event. Krejcikova plays a certain way, and it makes her vulnerable to Andreeva but also capable of beating her. Unfortunately, that's not a good enough compelling case to back her against Andreeva, as she failed to do that twice already.
Prediction: Mirra Andreeva to win in three sets.
