Coco Gauff lost to Iga Swiatek for an 11th time but the Polish player gave her a lot of praise after the match.
Swiatek is no stranger to struggling to find her best level because before she ascended to being the best player in the world, she had a lot of struggles. She has struggled to close out matches, she was even crying on the court in the middle of matches, so she's aware of what Gauff might be going through as she tries to solve the riddle.
It's quite a riddle because the most recent match they played in Paris wasn't that competitive, as the Pole won for the 11th time against the young American. It's quite incredible, but what's also incredible is the progress Gauff is showing with every event she plays.
The world no. 1 player has played her a lot of times in the past few years, so she has a front-row seat to all of that, and she praised the American following their most recent match.
"Well I think she is progressing a lot. You can see by her results, you know last year's US Open for sure showed that she's tough. I think at this age it's kind of obvious that she is going to just grow."
"So it's nice to see her handling well everything around her and it's not easy so I'm sure we're going to have plenty more really intense matches on the highest level because Coco is also one of the consistent players out there."
It's certainly a rivalry already, though it's been pretty one-sided so far. Still, Gauff won't stray away from the challenge because she's a fierce competitor who has the talent to be the best and the will to work towards that goal, and she proved before that she can beat the Pole.
