Former Champion Badosa Forced To Withdraw From 2024 Indian Wells Open

Paula Badosa remembers Indian Wells very fondly as she won her biggest trophy ever at the event, but the 2024 edition won't be remembered well.

The Spanish player was last seen on the courts last night during the Eisenhower Cup. She teamed up with her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas to play in the exhibition event, and they did really well.

Badosa was in high spirits, playing well and simply enjoying being back on the courts. Last year was terrible for the Spaniard, as she spent most of the year away from the courts due to injuries.

The comeback this year wasn't very seamless. There were some good and bad moments, but during the Tie-Break Tens exhibition, she played very well alongside Tsitsipas, as they stumbled only on the last hurdle in the final.

The Spanish player was supposed to play during the first day of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells as part of the night schedule, but she won't as she was forced to withdraw from the event.

The cause is an injury, of course, which left Badosa quite devastated. Judging by her words, she was clearly disappointed by the withdrawal, but there was nothing else she could have possibly done to avoid it.

"So sorry I have to withdraw from my favorite tournament. I tried everything to be able to play, but it wasn't enough. I'm having a very difficult time with my injury, but I'm fighting every day to come back as soon as possible."

The withdrawal news certainly didn't make the tournament organizers happy either, since Badosa was one of the wild card recipients.

"I wanna thank the fans that are sticking with me, especially this past year. I'm sorry haven't given what you are expecting from me and I'm just giving you sad news lately. (Trust me is the last thing I want also) I also want to thank the tournament for the WC, you are the best tournament in the world see you next year."

The Spanish player will now focus on her recovery in an attempt to return to the tennis courts as soon as possible, most likely during the clay-court swing.
