Emma Raducanu will not be part of the British Billie Jean King Cup team in the upcoming tie against France.
On April 14th and 15th, 2023, the British Billie Jean King Cup team will take on France in the qualifying tie of the women's tennis team competition.
The tie will be played on British soil, and with many talented players, team captain Anne Keothavong had a difficult job when choosing players that would represent the country.
Keothavong nominated Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, Katie Boulter, Alicia Barnett, and Olivia Nicholls, leaving out Emma Raducanu's name from the nomination.
This comes after interesting comments made by the 2021 US Open champion, who only recently admitted that she didn't have an idea when was the Billie Jean King Cup tie against France supposed to take place.
That's something Keothavong didn't like, as she promptly hit back at those comments. Now, those comments might have also been reflected in Keothavong's nomination, as that doesn't include Raducanu, but the team captain made a fair point for the inclusion of every player in the team.
"There were some memorable performances across the week to help us reach the semi-finals. Harriet showed us what she’s capable of by beating the likes of (Paula) Badosa and (Ajla) Tomljanovic."
"We saw Alicia and Olivia make their Cup debut, where they brought so much energy to the court and demonstrated how important doubles is. Katie and Heather have a proven track record in this competition and are enthusiastic as ever to be part of this team."
The team captain also spoke about Raducanu's unavailability and hinted that she might be part of the team again in the future despite her current absence from the British squad.
"While Emma is unavailable for this tie we look forward to seeing her back on the team in the near future."
