Emma Raducanu will be making her tennis return to Romania, signing up to play at the Transylvania Open in Cluj once more.

Raducanu first came to Romania last year to compete at this WTA 250 event and made a really nice run to the quarter-finals, beating Polona Hercog and home player Ana Bogdan before losing to Marta Kostyuk in two sets.

This year, she will try to improve upon that result with the experience of having played in Cluj. Romania is where her father is from and heritage has been very important to Raducanu.

She’s spoken fondly of growing up with two cultures as her father and mother don’t come from the same country. She had a really warm welcome last year in Romania as she was welcomed to the country as one of their own.

There wasn’t much distinction, and, at times, it looked like Simona Halep was on the court. That experience is something that Raducanu cherishes, and it proved vital in opting to come back this year, which she confirmed in the statement about coming back to the event.

"I had a really fun time last year in Cluj. The people were amazing and made me feel so, so welcomed. So, I’m really excited and happy to say that I’m coming back again this year."
"Whenever I can, I love to go back to Romania, that’s where my dad came from. I have so many positive and happy memories from there so I am really looking forward to coming back. See you soon."

The goal for Raducanu is to finish off this year on a high note, building up some confidence ahead of next year. After failing to defend her US Open title this year, she starts a new chapter of her tennis career, and a good confidence-building end of the season might be vital for that.
