Collins Continues Brilliant Form With Dominant Win Over Sakkari To Reach Charleston Final

Danielle Collins proved too strong for Maria Sakkari as she booked another final, this time at the 2024 Charleston Open, her second consecutive on the WTA Tour.

The American admitted earlier this year that she would retire at the end of the year, but former player Chris Evert urged her to reconsider that after her Miami Open performance.

She outplayed everybody en route to the final, where she beat Elena Rybakina to win the biggest trophy of her career. That was a week ago, and now she's back in another final.

She downed Sakkari in two sets to book the Charleston Open final. She's basically playing the tennis of her life, just months away from retirement. It's a crazy story, but she's deserving of it because she is truly playing really strong.

The first set went to Collins after some nice battling from both sides. The American took the first break, 3-0, but the Greek player came back and made it 3-3. It wasn't anything unusual for either player, as Collins is used to playing these types of matches.

Eventually, the American was able to stabilize and find her best tennis to win the opening set 6-3. She served better, which was one of the keys to her victory in the match.

The second set was pretty similar in that regard, as Collins was able to take another early break, and her serve would do the heavy lifting after that. It just wasn't good enough from Sakkari who struggled on her serve quite a bit.

She finished with six double faults and didn't really have great percentages on her serve. Collins was just too good and has been for a while. She essentially dominated the Tour in recent weeks and is now through to yet another final, where she'll play against Daria Kasatkina.
