Former world no. 11, Anastasija Sevastova has given birth to her first child, a daughter named Alexandra.
The Latvian player shared the news on Instagram with a post featuring her and her longtime coach and partner, Ronald Schmidt. Sevastova, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 11 in 2018, has been on maternity leave since the start of this season. She had a successful 2020 season before taking a break. In 2018, she recorded her best Grand Slam result when she reached the semifinals of the US Open.
Sevastova has not yet announced when she plans to return to the tennis tour. Many top players, including Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, have returned to competition after giving birth. It remains to be seen if Sevastova will follow in their footsteps and make a successful comeback.
Regardless of her future in tennis, Sevastova can now focus on her new role as a mother and enjoy this special time with her family. Congratulations to Sevastova and Schmidt on the arrival of their beautiful daughter, Alexandra.
