The 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a WTA 500 clay-court tournament in Stuttgart, and the entry list has been released.
The indoor clay-court event in Stuttgart, Germany, is one of the most popular WTA 500 tournaments on the Tour. The event is usually well organized, and there's one bonus for the event's champion.
Since Porsche sponsors the tournament, every year, the champion receives a brand new Porsche next to the winner's trophy and a hefty paycheque. That's rarely the case, so it certainly adds motivation for the players.
On the other hand, there's also one demotivating factor. In fact, it's one player - Iga Swiatek. The Polish player has been the best clay-court player on the WTA Tour for the past few years, and she's been proving that in Stuttgart.
The Pole won the tournament in 2022, and she defended her trophy in 2023. She actually never lost a match at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, and she'll try to go for a three-peat in 2024, leading the entry list.
Last year, she outplayed Aryna Sabalenka in the final, who then jokingly pretended to smash her brand-new Porsche, having lost in the third consecutive final in Stuttgart. The Belarusian will also come to Stuttgart in 2024 in an attempt to finally make the one final step.
However, neither of the two will have an easy journey to the trophy, as nine of the Top 10 players appear on the entry list for the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Swiatek and Sabalenka are joined by Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, Qinwen Zheng, Marketa Vondrousova, and also Jelena Ostapenko, who won the only clay-court Grand Slam in 2017.
On top of that, former major champions Emma Raducanu and Angelique Kerber should also play at the tournament thanks to a wild card, with no player outside of the world's Top 31 making the initial cut-off for the entry list, which can be viewed below.
