The 2023 Guadalajara Open is the penultimate stop of the WTA 1000 category where a 64-woman caravan will jet in Mexico.
The tournament which is set to begin on September 17th and will last until the 23rd of the same month, will distribute prize money to the tune of $2,788,468 and which features a vast array of WTA stars.
Chief among is Poland's Iga Swiatek who will try to hunt for the No. 1 ranking at every opportunity in her second appearance in the city after the 2021 WTA Finals. She will be joined in the field by defending champion Jessica Pegula who won her first WTA 1000 title 12 months ago and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.
Tunisia's Ons Jabeur and in-form American Coco Gauff are also in the running. New WTA No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is not part of the 64-player lineup, and unless she takes a late wild card, the Belarusian will switch her attention to the China Open.
Seven of the world's Top 10 are all expected to travel to Guadalajara, with the Czech duo of Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova set to make their tournament debuts while last year's finalist Maria Sakkari will look to go one better this year.
The Guadalajara Open is one of those tournaments where players would need to win seven matches (six for the top seeds) to win the trophy. The champion, therefore, will garner 900 points and earn a sizable chunk of $454,500 in prize money.
The beaten finalist won't go empty-handed. She will take home $267,690 and collect 585 in points. The losing semifinalists will be $138,000 wealthier with 350 points to boot, while all four losing quarterfinalists will earn at least $63,350 and 190 points that could be priceless in the rankings.
Those players who fail to win a single match will be rewarded for their efforts - not a lot in points (1 point) but a generous paycheck of $12,848. Below is the complete breakdown of each round's prize money and points total.
