The 2022 Italian Open will take place in the Italian capital, Rome, from May 9th to 15th, with the best women in the world taking it to the clay courts.
Iga Swiatek, who upset Karolina Pliskova in the final last year, is the defending winner of the 2022 Italian Open. The Czech player, on the other hand, is a Rome champion, having won in 2019, and they are both on the tournament's entry list this year. The Italian Open has a long series of champions, including Simona Halep and Elina Svitolina. However, while Halep will try to add another title in 2022, the Ukrainian won't take part at the event.
The first eight seeded players at the 2022 Italian Open go straight to the second round and so the first seeded Iga Swiatek will have a bit less work during her title defence as she will start in the second round against Shelby Rogers or Alison Riske.
The second seeded Paula Badosa will also avoid her first round match as she will take on Veronika Kudermetova, who she met at the Madrid Open a week ago or a qualifier in the second round. No. 3 in Rome, Aryna Sabalenka will start her 2022 Italian Open campaign against Shuai Zhang or home player Martina Trevisan.
