Future of the Czech tennis is very bright and their second highest-ranked player under 18 years, Linda Fruhvirtova is proving that at the 2022 Chennai Open.

Four out of five highest-ranked players under 18 years of age are from the Czech Republic and Linda Fruhvirtova is one of them. The 17-years-old super talent is currently the second highest-ranked player under 18 years, behind her compatriot Linda Noskova, but after the 2022 Chennai Open run, she will jump to the pole position and break into the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings for the first time in her career.

After defeating En Shuo Liang, Rebecca Peterson and Varvara Gracheva, the youngster took on 2020 Roland Garros semifinalist, Nadia Podoroska. And the more experienced Argentinian had a much better start of the match when she quickly earned two breaks and led 5-2.

However, despite serving for a set twice and having two set points, her opponent fought back and for a second it seemed that the first set will be decided in a tie-break. Yet, Podoroska stepped up her game once more to eventually win the first set 7-5 and get an important lead.

In the second set, it looked good for the former Grand Slam semifinalist once again as she got the first break of the set. But then, Fruhvirtova started a four-game streak and eventually won the set 6-2 to force the decider.

In the third set, Podoroska was once again the first player to break. Yet, it was not enough to win the match as she lost her 4-2 lead and after two hours and 45 minutes, Linda Fruhvirtova reached her maiden WTA final after winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
