16-year-old Mirra Andreeva is very good at tennis and quite confident as well as she once again backed herself to create records as Novak Djokovic did.
Andreeva emerged as a 15-year earlier this year by scoring a few stunning wins at the Madrid Open. She turned 16 at that event but continued to play well putting together a very good run at Roland Garros. It started in the qualifiers and ended with a loss to Coco Gauff and she's doing it again at Wimbledon.
Once again, Andreeva went through the qualifiers to book a post in the main draw and now she's back in the 3rd round of the Grand Slam after two solid wins. The Russian is hoping to go one step further than at Roland Garros and she certainly doesn't lack any confidence.
Back at Roland Garros, Andreeva admitted that she would like to equal the iconic records of Novak Djokovic who has the most Grand Slams out of active players. She was asked about that claim after her most recent Wimbledon win and she didn't walk it back.
Of course, I always want to win, doesn't matter which tournament, which round. I always go to win. I will just do my best. If I can advance to the round of 16, I will be super happy. If I can advance to the semifinal, I will be of course super happy.
I will just try to do my best, then we will see what will I do. But honestly I don't have any goals. I just play.
Trying to do your best always is certainly the one thing you can control as an athlete and a pretty healthy mindset to have generally. How far she can go with that remains to be seen but as of now, Andreeva is doing something we haven't seen on the WTA Tour since Coco Gauff, and even Gauff wasn't this convincing as a 16-year-old.
