Iga Swiatek has released a lengthy video on Instagram outlining all the details of her doping case, which shocked the tennis world.

The former world No. 1 ended her 2024 season with a semifinal appearance in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. After a loss in the doubles confirmed Team Poland's exit, an emotional Swiatek was comforted by her teammates.

At the time, those watching thought Swiatek's sadness was entirely caused by her country coming so close to reaching the final of the team event, but it may have also been because of the story that broke about her shortly afterward.

Swiatek received a one-month suspension after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine. That happened after an out-of-competition sample provided by the 23-year-old on August 12th.

On September 12th, Swiatek received a provisional suspension after the test returned positive. She appealed the case on September 22nd, claiming a non-prescription medication had been contaminated with trimetazidine.

The good news for Swiatek's fans is that the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory found her explanation to be accurate. That meant the provisional suspension was lifted, meaning she avoided a more extended ban.

Although the outcome could have been worse for Swiatek, it is still a shocking story. The four-time French Open champion made a lengthy Instagram video discussing all aspects of the case.

That video can be viewed below. Swiatek spoke about when each event happened, the stress and anxiety she has been living with since being told about the positive test, and wanting to return next year with the incident behind her.

The world No. 2 also accompanied the video with text summarizing her feelings for those who might not have time to watch the clip or who wanted additional thoughts from the WTA star.

"I’m finally allowed… so I instantly want to share with you something that became the worst experience of my life. In the last 2.5 months I was subject to strict ITIA proceedings, which confirmed my innocence."

"The only positive doping test in my career, showing unbelievably low level of a banned substance I’ve never heard about before, put everything I’ve worked so hard for my entire life into question."

"Both me and my Team had to deal with tremendous stress and anxiety. Now everything has been carefully explained, and with a clean slate I can go back to what I love most. I know I will be stronger than ever."

"I’m leaving with you a long video and right now I’m just relieved it’s over. I want to be open with you, even though I know I did nothing wrong. Out of respect for my fans and the public, I’m sharing all the details of this longest and toughest tournament of my career. My biggest hope is that you will stay with me."

The evidence clearly showed that Swiatek never intended to cheat or gain an unfair advantage, and she should be allowed to return to tennis without negativity from her colleagues. However, the stressful ordeal will probably stay with her forever.
