Stefanos Tsitsipas issued a blunt reply to those who question Paula Badosa's effect on his career, saying he pays no attention to them.
Tsitsipas and Badosa began dating in June 2023. They briefly split last year, but reconciled a few weeks later, and their relationship seems to be happy in a stable and happy place.
Although the Greek No. 1 does not hide how much he loves dating Badosa, her relationship with him has coincided with inconsistencies on the court. The 26-year-old reached his second Grand Slam final at the 2023 Australian Open, a few months before he began dating Badosa.
There have been high points, including winning a third Monte Carlo Masters title last year and ending a run of 11 consecutive ATP 500 final defeats at the 2025 Dubai Championships, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.
However, although it would be unfair to call Tsitsipas' results over the last two years bad, they have been below what many hoped for him, as the 2021 French Open runner-up has long been tipped to win a Grand Slam.
Tsitsipas' best performance at the four majors since his relationship with Badosa became public occurred at the 2024 French Open, where he reached another quarterfinal at Roland Garros before losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
Badosa and Tsitsipas appeared together at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid. The event included Rafael Nadal being given the Sporting Icon award, with his great rival Novak Djokovic among the crowd watching.
A reporter had the opportunity to speak with the couple briefly and asked about the assumptions some make about Badosa's impact on Tsitsipas. He gave a clear response that left no doubts about how much he appreciates her role in his life.
"I don't really pay attention to it. I don't read media. I don't even follow media, and that's also one of the reasons I'm out of social media during competitions. I don't want to read, I don't want to see, I don't want to hear anything people have to say."
"I'm happy with the person I have in my life. I don't want this to interfere with my tennis career in a negative way. Obviously, I have the right support by my side in order to allow me to thrive in my tennis career and my professional endeavors."
Although the reporter probably meant no harm, the question was quite negative. Who players are dating off the court should not be linked to how they perform on it, regardless of the individual's results.
Hopefully, Tsitsipas is fully fit for the 2025 Madrid Open. He retired from his Barcelona Open quarterfinal against Arthur Fils after just two games, stopping him from trying to reach another final at the tournament.
Holger Rune ultimately won the Barcelona Open title. He produced a superb performance to topple the two-time champion and home favorite Alcaraz, although the Spaniard had physical issues of his own in the second set of the 6-7, 2-6 loss.
Nonetheless, Alcaraz is the favorite to win a third title at this year's Madrid Open, especially since he expects to be fit after recovered from the physical problems against Rune.
