Jasmine Paolini will now train under coach
Sara Errani, who is
also her doubles partner.
Paolini and Errani began competing as a team to qualify for
the 2024 Olympics. They won their first doubles trophy in Monastir in 2023 and
have never looked back since.
Last year, the duo claimed the Linz doubles trophy in February
and won the
WTA 1000 Rome in May. They finished as the runners-up at Roland
Garros and clinched the doubles gold for Italy at the same venue during Paris
Games. Two months later, they lifted another WTA 1000 trophy by
winning the
China Open.
The Italians carried on with the same momentum this season,
winning WTA 1000 events in Doha, Rome and Beijing. They also improved on their
previous run at the French Open by winning the final to become a Grand Slam
champion together for the first time.
Thus far, their partnership has yielded fruits sweeter than
they would have expected. Hence, the two have decided to use their synergy as a
team on the singles circuit as well. Errani will now travel with Paolini as her
full-time coach on the tour.
Paolini confirmed the same
during a recent interview in Errani's presence.
“I’ll have two people this year: Danilo Pizzorno and her [Sara
Errani], who will be in charge of the tactical part, which is on another level.”
- Jasmine Paolini on NOVE and Discovery+ (via Super Tennis)Paolini alone has put together noteworthy performances in the
recent past. She won the Cincinnati Open in 2024. She came close to two Grand
Slam titles last year, reaching the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon.
The World No. 8 won the Italian Open this year; however, she couldn’t
produce the goods at Majors, with a fourth-round finish in Paris amounting to
her best campaign.
“Over the last three years, I've grown as a player and as a
person; I have clearer ideas on the court. I always try to move forward and
forgive myself. Tennis is a sport where you have to forget quickly.”
Paolini and Errani were also part of
Italy’s success at the Billie Jean King Cup. Errani has been playing professional tennis since 2002,
and she had planned to call it a day if she won a medal at the Paris Olympics.
“We’re still here playing. I said I’d sign off if I won a
medal, but we’re doing so well that it’s hard to stop.”
- Sara ErraniThe 38-year-old is vastly experienced, having won nine Grand
Slam titles in doubles and mixed doubles. In singles, she was ranked as high as
World No. 5. She won nine titles and made 10 finals, including one at Roland
Garros. So, she has the ability to make a difference as a coach and help Paolini
secure a major trophy in the season to come.
