Carlos Alcaraz already has three tattoos, and the Spaniard confirmed what he plans to get for his fourth.
Alcaraz is currently in Turin for the ATP Finals. The season-ending tournament is a significant event on the calendar that Alcaraz has never won, but he still does not expect to feel nervous the night before his opening match against Casper Ruud.
The ATP Finals will be followed by Alcaraz ending his season at the Davis Cup Finals, Rafael Nadal's last professional event. Alcaraz believes the 22-time Grand Slam champion ending his career with a victory would be as god intends it.
The 21-year-old will then be able to refresh during the off-season before returning in 2025 to compete at the opening Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne at the Australian Open.
There will be extra motivation for Alcaraz since the Australian Open is the only major title he has yet to win. The four-time Grand Slam champion has two Wimbledon titles, a US Open crown, and a French Open title.
Alcaraz marked each of those titles for the first time by getting a tattoo. After winning the 2022 US Open, he got a tattoo in reference to his Grandfather's motto: "Cabeza, Corazon, cajones"(head, heart, ba**s).
For Wimbledon, Alcaraz added a tattoo with the date of his victory against Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final with a strawberry etched on his right ankle about Wimbledon's tradition of strawberry and cream.
After securing his maiden French Open this year, Alcaraz got a tattoo of the iconic Eiffel Tower. That means the Australian Open is the only Grand Slam remaining for the Spanish to mark with a tattoo.
Speaking to Marca, Alcaraz revealed the tattoo he plans to get if and when he wins the Australian Open. The former world No. 1 also mentioned how important it was to have a break and disconnect from tennis before the 2025 season.
"I have it in mind, I have in mind to get a tattoo of the kangaroo. I'm going to try to have a good holiday first. For me it's super important to be able to disconnect from tennis."
"And to come back fresh for the pre-season so that it's brilliant, brutal, to arrive in Australia in the best possible shape both tennis-wise, physically and mentally. The goal is to complete the 'Grand Slam' in Melbourne."
The two-time Wimbledon champion only gets tattoos for winning the four Grand Slams. When asked at the Paris Masters about getting a tattoo for securing the title at the final Masters 1000 tournament of the year, he answered that it was only for the four biggest tournaments of the season.
Despite the significance of the ATP Finals, Alcaraz will not get a tattoo if he wins the title. Challenging for the title will not be easy for him since the young star has struggled on indoor courts throughout his career.
However, his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, installed a court similar to the one used at the ATP Finals for him to practice on before he traveled to Turin, which might give him an advantage over other players.
