Emma Raducanu ended her 2025 season early, and she will instead focus on preparing well for the season ahead.
Raducanu loves the Asian swing. The 22-year-old is half-Chinese on her mother's side, which is why she always enjoys coming to China and to other tournaments in Asia.
This year, she started her Asian swing in Seoul, where she lost in the second round to Barbora Krejcikova. She lost in her second match at the China Open as well, and then retired from her opening match at the Wuhan Open. After that, the British player lost in her first match at the Ningbo Open, which means she lost her last three matches.
But her form wasn't the only thing to blame for those losses.
Raducanu has struggled with her health as well. She needed a medical timeout during her match in Ningbo, and her movement seemed to be impacted by the injury.
Because of those struggles, Raducanu decided to end this season early, as reported by the
BBC. That means she won't play at the upcoming Japan Open in Tokyo and at the Hong Kong Open, despite signing up for these events.
According to the reports, the Brit has also been ill over the past two weeks, and even though she initially wanted to battle through it, she has now made the decision that it's better to rest.
In the past few months,
Raducanu has worked with Francisco Roig, who worked with Rafael Nadal for a good part of the Spaniard's career. The partnership has seemingly worked well for Raducanu, which is why she has no intention of stopping it and will continue with Roig for the 2026 season as well.
What's next for Emma Raducanu after ending her 2025 season early?
The 2025 season was Raducanu's fifth on Tour. Although her first season was not complete, as she had her breakthrough in the middle of it, and she missed the vast majority of the 2023 season, this year was her fifth among professionals.
Only for the second time, Raducanu will end the season inside the Top 40, and that opens new possibilities for her in 2026. Currently, the Brit is the 27th player in the 2025
WTA Race, but it can be expected that a few players might overtake her in the coming weeks.
Still, Raducanu will be a hot favorite for a seeding spot at the 2026 Australian Open. If she manages to stay inside the Top 30 at the start of the season, she might also be seeded for the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, and having a first-round bye at WTA 1000 events immediately gives her a chance to have deeper runs, earn more points, and climb even higher.
Raducanu, like the rest of the Tour, will begin her new season in Australia after completing a few exhibition events during the off-season.
