Emma Raducanu Aims To 'Play More' In 2025 As She Aims To 'Fulfil' Her Potential

Emma Raducanu seems to be more motivated than ever to start her 2025 season, and she even aims to play more matches than ever before.

The young British player never played many matches in one WTA season. Sometimes, it was because of her scheduling decisions, but most of the time, it was because of her injuries.

Because of that, Raducanu completed a minuscule amount of matches compared to her rivals. For example, in 2022, she played 36 matches, winning 17 and losing 19.

In 2023, she played only 10 matches, winning five and losing five, and in 2024, she played the same amount of matches as she did in 2022 (36), but this time, she won 23 and lost only 13.

Comparing those numbers to some of the best players shows just how little Raducanu played. For example, Coco Gauff completed 71 singles matches in 2024, winning 54 and losing 17.

Aryna Sabalenka played 70 matches (56-14 record), while Iga Swiatek competed in 70 matches (61-9 record). The Polish player would have likely come close to playing 80 matches this season had she not been suspended for a month.

In 2025, Raducanu likely won't get close to those numbers, but she can certainly improve and start playing more. In the Top 60, there aren't many players who would have played fewer matches than she did.

And according to Raducanu's recent interview, as per PA, that seems to be her goal. The 22-year-old player revealed that she intends to play more matches, especially since she learned how to practice and improve even during tournaments.

"I want to play more than I did this year. I think now, with my set-up, I’m in a place where I can continue work on the road. So I don’t necessarily need to come back to continue good physical work."

"I can do it pretty much every day, like microdoses. And I think that’s actually going to be a great addition for me next year, which I’m excited about."

It seems that Raducanu is extremely excited about her 2025 season. She has learned a lot about herself in recent years, and she wants to use all of that experience to be a better player.

Now, she is driven by different goals than she was a few years ago. She knows that setting goals of winning tournaments is not sustainable, which is why she wants to become the best player possible, fulfilling her potential.

"Also with my tennis, I’m in a pretty good spot. I feel like I just want to see how much I can do, fulfil my potential. I’m curious about what my level can get to. I really want to play more. And I think a big part of that is just staying healthy."
