Bianca Andreescu is getting back to her top form, winning her second title in three weeks and climbing up the rankings.
Andreescu was once one of the most promising talents on the
WTA Tour. In 2019, she won two WTA 1000 titles (Indian Wells and Toronto) as well as her maiden major title at the US Open. Naturally, she skyrocketed into the Top 5 and became one of the top favorites for every event she entered.
But there weren't many of those events. The Canadian missed the entire 2020 season and hasn't finished a season inside the Top 40 since then. In fact, she ended the 2024 season ranked 132nd in the world and 2025 ranked 228th.
Her tennis wasn't the only factor behind such a decline. Andreescu has struggled to stay healthy for almost her entire tennis career, which is why she never really completed a full year on the Tour.
She is trying to change that in 2026, even though a bit differently than most of her fans probably anticipated. Andreescu didn't travel to Australia at the start of the season to compete at the Australian Open. Instead, she started her season in the United States.
The 25-year-old dropped down to the W35 level, competing at the event in Bradenton, Florida, United States.
She won that tournament, marking her first title win since the 2019 US Open. After that, she signed up for another W35 event, this time in Weston, Florida, United States, but lost in the semi-finals to 19-year-old Akasha Urhobo.
That didn't stop Andreescu, as she signed up for the W75 tournament in Vero Beach, Florida, United States. She entered the event as the sixth seed, and in the first round of the tournament, the former US Open champion beat Victoria Hu.
Andreescu then defeated Lia Karatancheva, Kajsa Rinaldo Persson, and Jasmin Ortenzi to reach the final of the W75 event. She bested Xiaodi You 7-5, 6-1 in the final to win her second title in three weeks, this time without losing a set.
This Andreescu's comeback attempt seems to be one of her best so far. She has won 13 of the 14 matches that she played, won two trophies, and also climbed up the
WTA Rankings. She is now ranked 162nd in the world.
Although Andreescu could ask for a wild card at any event as a former US Open winner, the Canadian certainly wants to have a sufficient ranking to enter the best events, and this approach will help more. Most importantly, however, she gets to spend a lot of time on the tennis courts winning matches, which is essential for her confidence.
Andreescu is now expected to compete at the
WTA 125 event in Midland, Michigan, United States. After that, she will hope to receive wild cards for the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open.
