The 2025 Abu Dhabi Open will once again feature a star-studded field of players, as the entry list for this WTA 500 event has been released.
The Abu Dhabi Open, also called the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, is a relatively new tournament in the WTA calendar, yet it's one of the most popular WTA 500 events.
It was first held in 2021, and even though the tournament was absent from the calendar in 2022, it returned in 2023 and 2024, and it will be held for the fourth time in 2025. The 2025 Abu Dhabi Open will be held from February 3rd to 8th.
Aryna Sabalenka won the inaugural edition of the tournament, but she will not return in 2025. However, two former champions will play at the tournament, held at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Belinda Bencic, who won the tournament in 2023, and the 2024 champion, Elena Rybakina, will both compete in 2025. Rybakina is projected to be the top seed, while Bencic received a wild card to compete at the event.
Unlike the Austria Open in Linz, which is held in the week prior, the Abu Dhabi Open will feature plenty of Top 20 players. Daria Kasatkina played in the final of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open, and she will want to get revenge for Rybakina's win.
Danielle Collins competed at the event in the past two seasons, and she will return in 2025. She will try to improve on her previous results, as she has recorded only one main draw win in two years.
Paula Badosa has not competed since 2021, when she made the third round, and she, too, will return to the tournament. The same applies also to two-time semi-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the top four stage in both of the previous two editions.
Jelena Ostapenko won't defend her title in Linz, but she chose to compete in Abu Dhabi instead. Last year, she withdrew from the Abu Dhabi Open after her title run at the Austria Open, and since she probably wanted to play in the United Arab Emirates this year, she made this interesting scheduling decision.
Home fans will be certainly happy to see an Arab player competing, as Ons Jabeur received one of the wild cards to play at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Open.
There will also be many players hoping to make a deep run, such as Katie Boulter, Yulia Putintseva, Leylah Fernandez, and Amanda Anisimova, who will be all among the dark horses at the event.
