The Hawks managed to sensationally come back against The Falcons at the 2022 World Tennis League despite a massive deficit, and Alexander Zverev delivered the final point.
After Grigor Dimitrov and Paula Badosa won in mixed doubles and Aryna Sabalenka won the first set against Elena Rybakina 6-0, The Falcons had an enormous lead against The Hawks.
Dimitrov and Badosa won their mixed doubles match 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. In a format in which every game won counts as one point, that translated into a 13-10 lead. After Sabalenka bageled Rybakina in the opening set of the women's singles match, The Falcons already led 19-10.
However, Rybakina managed to turn her match around. That meant the scoreboard showed 18-20 before the men's singles match. If Zverev wanted his team to win the tie, he needed to beat Novak Djokovic.
The experienced Serbian started much better in Dubai, as he got an early break and led 2-0. However, Zverev broke back to level the score. That wasn't all from the German, as he added another break to win the first set 6-3.
The German is coming back from an injury. Therefore, it was expected that the 21-time Grand Slam champion would be able to come back in the second set, especially after his sensational end of the season.
Yet, Zverev could break his opponent two more times. On the other hand, Djokovic got only one break, and after an hour and eight minutes, Zverev won the match 6-3, 6-4
He also completed a perfect comeback against The Falcons, winning the tie 35-27. The Serbian will need to quickly recover as he's set to play against Nick Kyrgios on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Zverev should have three free days as Dominic Thiem should play his team's next men's singles match unless a change is made.
