WATCH: Umpire Lahyani Receives Medical Time Out In Hamburg Final Between Zverev & Djere

Medical time-outs are quite normal on the ATP Tour, but usually, it's not the umpire who receives it, as it happened during the 2023 Hamburg Open final.

In the 2023 Hamburg Open final, the fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev fought against Laslo Djere from Serbia, as the crowd in Hamburg supported Zverev, who was born in Hamburg and wanted to win his first title since 2021, and what better place to do it than the home town.

After a few solid performances, the German made it to the final, where he clashed with world no. 57 from Serbia. The first set of the match saw both players having their chances, before the German no. 1 used his second break point to win the opening set 7-5.

In the second part of the match, Zverev was up 2-1, when it was the umpire, Mohamed Lahyani, who stole the show. When going to check one of the marks on the clay court at 40-40 in the fourth game of the second set, the Swedish umpire injured himself when coming down the stairs.

It was quickly obvious from his movement, and once he sat back in his chair, Lahyani started touching his foot. Promptly, he started signalizing one of the physios that he was injured, but since he didn't want to interrupt the play, he had to wait for a changeover.

That happened a few minutes later after Zverev managed to break his opponent's serve and confirm it with a hold to lead 4-1 in the second set of the match. Lahyani managed to consult one of the physios, who rushed with him behind his chair.

There, the medical personnel quickly took care of Lahyani's injury, as the umpire didn't want to hold up the players for too long because of his injury. You can see the funny and unusual moment in the video below.
