Dominic Thiem will need to recover and re-focus as he'll play two matches on one day at the 2023 Munich Open.

In the second-round match against Marc-Andrea Huesler the Austrian had to fight the opponent but also conditions as the match was delayed due to darkness. The two never met before on the ATP Tour and if you ever considered their meeting, you surely wouldn't expect that Huesler would be the seeded player.

The eighth-seeded Swiss wanted to stop Thiem who finally started to find some good form. On Thursday, Huesler did everything possible to secure the win, but nature stopped him and the match had to resume on Friday.

Both players had multiple break points in the first set, but only one was converted. It was the one that Huesler had in the eleventh game and that helped him to win the first set 7-5 after an hour and five minutes of fighting on the red dirt.

Thing were going well for the Swiss player also in the second set as he was managing to hold his serve comfortably, but at 3-3, the match was suspended. The players returned to the court on Friday, and Thiem found his range again and started firing away.

In the tenth game of the second set, he broke his opponent's serve, winning the second set 6-4 and forcing a decider. The Austrian didn't stop his charge in the second set as he was the first player to break also in the third set.

And although his opponent managed to break back, once again the tenth game proved to be costly for Huesler. Thiem broke his opponent and left him no space to answer to win the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Now, the 2020 US Open champion will need to quickly gain some energy and prepare for the quarterfinal match against the second-seeded Taylor Fritz, which will be played in a couple of hours.
