Apostolos Tsitsipas, who is the father and coach of his son Stefanos Tsitsipas, thinks that off-court coaching is important, which is why he was happy about the recent change in rules.

Tsitsipas is probably the player on the ATP Tour who has received the most coaching code violations. His father and coach, in one person, likes to talk a lot during the matches, which often results in these code violations.

Recently, Apostolos Tsitsipas sat down with Tenisology, and he also talked about the controversial off-court coaching. The Greek coach thinks it should be allowed.

"Thank God coaching is now allowed in tennis. I feel that people didn't understand anything."

Apostolos disagrees with what the ATP stated the person in the player's box is for. He thinks his role isn't only to cheer for his player but also to help him if he struggles in the match.

"The ATP code has always said that a person who is in a player's box can cheer him on or support him during the match. For me, in the first place, it is about trying to help your tennis player to try to get out of that emotional hole that can cause you to not be doing things well during a match."

Apostolos Tsitsipas also spoke about the goals for his son. The Greek coach feels that his son hasn't reached his potential yet. Although they have previously experienced with other coaches, he thinks that he knows the best what to tell his son during the matches.

"I still think that I haven't given it my all yet. We haven't achieved all our goals yet. We have invited some coaches to the team, but whoever comes has to know that this is something between three people: Stefanos, the coach and myself. I know very good to my son. I know how he (Stefanos Tsitsipas) thinks and I know what I have to say to him in order to motivate him."
