Former World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka will return to the top 100 in the ATP world rankings when they are published next week.

The Swiss three-time Grand Slam champion is currently competing in Marseille at the Open 13 ATP 250 event, where he has made it through to the quarter-finals, courtesy of a three set victory over Frenchman, and fellow veteran of the game, Richard Gasquet.

Wawrinka's ranking has plummeted over the past five years because of a knee injury which curtailed his 2018 season and has plagued his since. His recovery has been slow, with several set-backs, exacerbated by the time away from the game he spent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the former US, Australian and French Open champion looks to be slowly getting back to his best, and this is being reflected in his gradual progress back up the rankings.

The Swiss star had been as high as No. 3 in the world back in 2014, but had plunged as low as 361 last year.

But Wawrinka will find himself back inside the top 100 for the first time since January last year, as he looks to capitalise on a rich vein of form.

He will play either talented young Frenchman Arthur Fils or Jannik Sinner in the last eight.
