'Zero Care For Players' Sinner's Coach Challenges ATP's Unfavorable Match Scheduling

Jannik Sinner's coach Darren Cahill has spoken out about the ATP's scheduling after the Italian's late-night finish at the 2023 Paris Masters.

Sinner played out a three-set match against Mackenzie McDonald at the Paris Masters on Wednesday, and the match lasted for two hours and 16 minutes. Eventually, the 20-year-old edged McDonald to a 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-1 win, but the match finished just before 3 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The late end to the contest led Sinner's coach to hit out at the ATP about its match timings during the Paris Masters. On his personal Instagram channel, coach Cahill questioned the ATP's regard for player safety as a result of Sinner's late finish.

"2.45 am. Happy for the Jannik Sinner win but zero care for the players' welfare with Paris schedule."

Cahill wrote on Instagram

The 2:45 a.m. finish left Sinner with under 14 hours to recover and rest before his upcoming quarter-final clash with Alex de Minaur.

In addition, the Italian player had to overcome another grueling match from the Vienna Open final, when he played out a three-hour slug with Danill Medvedev, leaving him with more fatigue.

During his on-court interview after edging past McDonald in the round of 16, Sinner explained some of the difficulties that come with finishing a match after midnight.

"It's not easy to go on the court after midnight, it's very late. Now I just have to try to sleep and recover, we'll see how I feel tomorrow,"

"In any case, I'm happy. I lost the first set badly, but that's normal, I still have to get used to the conditions."

However, the next day, Sinner was forced to withdraw from the tournament because of the fatigue. The Italian's example certainly showed the ATP that they should not play with the player's health and take matters seriously.
