These days, if you're not screaming, disrespecting your opponent, smashing rackets, or doing trick shots, you're not an interesting tennis player. I don't think folks have the attention span for real tennis anymore. What more does he have to do?
Jannik Sinner has developed a big online fanbase and they did not take kindly to the Australian Open champion being branded not interesting.
The Italian has been wowing fans this season with his outstanding level of tennis. His only loss so far in 2024 was against Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells. All his other tournament entries in 2024 ended in title triumphs.
Those terrific results mean Sinner has a big lead in the current race for the ATP Finals. It may be very early in the season, but overtaking him will require a huge effort from the other players at the top of the men's game.
The 22-year-old is also popular due to how nice he is off-court. This was shown during a heartwarming practice session between Sinner and a fan with cerebral palsy, with the fan praising Sinner on social media.
Yet, there is a minority that feels Sinner is not interesting, and some even go further and say he is boring. This was not well received by his fans, who feel he is great for tennis and will continue to be so in the coming years.
Responding to an account that said Sinner does not interest him at all, one fan bemoaned some only being interested in players who get angry or throw tantrums during their matches.
"These days, if you're not screaming, disrespecting your opponent, smashing rackets, or doing trick shots, you're not an interesting tennis player. I don't think folks have the attention span for real tennis anymore."
Another fan was baffled by those who do not like Sinner, questioning what these people want and arguing he is everything the sport could want with the era of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic nearing the end.
"Just curious as a tennis fan, if not Sinner, then who does interest you? And for what reasons? This guy is everything we could want in our sport especially at a time where the big 3 era is nearing its end. What more could you want?"
Most tennis fans agree that Sinner is great for tennis and he will undoubtedly continue to be a leader of the sport in the coming years.
