Holger Rune believes that he is ready to win a Grand Slam in 2024, as he started the new season with a pretty solid victory.
Rune played some really solid tennis at the start of the 2023 campaign in Australia, and he hopes to do even better this year. Stylistically, he's a pretty great fit Down Under where the faster courts suit his aggressive style of play.
The beginning of 2024 was good as he downed a tricky player in Max Purcell in three sets, which, while some might think was not ideal, was actually a really good win.
Rune was pushed in that match, and he responded accordingly, which will only give him confidence. In general, confidence is not something he has trouble with, but the solid finish to the year will add to that.
The goal is pretty simple: to win a Grand Slam title, and he really thinks that this year could finally be the one.
To win a Grand Slam. You know, it’s a big goal of mine. It’s what I’ve been working for all of my life, so I’m eager to achieve it.
He's entering 2024 with a pretty strong team around himself, as former Federer coach Severin Luthi joined Boris Becker. The duo are both strong coaches, and Becker's imprint on the Danish star is already visible.
He's handling things going wrong a bit calmer, which was evident against Purcell as well. That was a tricky match where he overcame a lack of rhythm early on.
It was difficult in the beginning, I had to find my rhythm. But I thought once I found it, especially on the serve, I managed to get a lot of free points. That helped me get into the match and I kept fighting to find solutions.
