The final doubles match of the World Tennis League final saw good friends Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev pair up against Grigor Dimitrov and Lloyd Harris.
After Sabalenka and Badosa messed up their doubles match, Dimitrov and Harris found themselves in a pretty tricky spot. Their team was behind by one after the first two matches so they really needed to pull out this one.
The unique format, which counts every game as a point, makes it crucial to keep the scores close. Had they lost this match easily, their team would be in an impossible situation with the final two singles matches coming up.
That's why we saw some pretty good play by Dimitrov and Harris. Both of them are really good servers and they had their serve working really well. In the rallies, Medvedev and Rublev seemed to have a minor edge but couldn't create too much pressure due to the serves.
On their own serve, the Russians didn't really face any kind of issues cruising through their games easily. Eventually, they found themselves in a position to break at 4-3 and they did it. It was only a matter of time when one bad service game was going to ruin it for the Kites and that's what happened.
Once they broke, Medvedev and Rublev easily cruised to the finish line ending the match 6-3. A really strong performance from the Russian who add to the lead of their team. The Eagles are now up 19-15 with two more singles matches to go, and that's a pretty strong position to be in.
The disaster for the Kites was not only the previous match where they had a 5-2 lead and wasted it, it's also losing this one with a score that's not close. Every game counts, and 6-3 is not pretty.
